About the Artist ~ Kristina Summerfield

The Heart Behind the Art

I'm Kristina, the artist and maker behind Into The Wanderness. My creative practice has always been a place of connection, exploration and self-expression.

For as long as I can remember, art has been my medicine ~ a healing practice I return to again and again to ground myself in the present, reconnect with my soul and honour my creativity. I've always felt there was something magical about bringing an idea into form with my own two hands.

Into The Wanderness grew from this deep-rooted love of creativity, a space where the things that inspire me, move through me and long to be shared can take form.

From Art to Alchemy

What began with drawing and painting slowly unfolded into a deeper calling, and in time, the universe gently guided me towards the art of jewellery-making.

My journey into jewellery began in 2013 with an internship at a local jewellery business, where I spent two years learning the foundations of silversmithing from my amazing teacher, Ellie Ingram, (who I'm lucky enough to call a very dear friend!)

When I hand-forged my first piece of jewellery, I felt something awaken inside me. Hungry to learn and practise as much as I could, my dad built me a simple workbench in the corner of my parents' flower shop. From there, I poured myself into the craft of silversmithing.

In 2014, I took the leap and began building my own jewellery business, continuing to learn, experiment and develop my skills along the way. My love of making eventually became intertwined with my love of travel, and for four years I carried my sketchbooks alongside a growing collection of gemstones with me around the world in my backpack.

While travelling, I sought out opportunities to learn from other makers and artists. In Bali, I learned traditional silversmithing techniques and spent time among the rice fields learning the art of stone setting from master Balinese jewellers. I filled sketchbooks with designs, collected gemstones and gathered inspiration from the places, people and traditions I encountered along the way.

After travelling through Asia and living in Australia and New Zealand, I returned home in 2020, and Into The Wanderness was born - bringing together my love of wandering, creativity, nature and the unknown.

For me, Into The Wanderness speaks to the path ahead - the untrodden path, the places we haven't yet discovered and the beautiful mystery of not knowing exactly where life will take us. It is an invitation to wander with curiosity, to follow what calls us and to remember that anything is possible when we allow ourselves to step beyond the known.

The Art of Making

Today, after 13 years of making, I design and handcraft my jewellery from my Birmingham studio. From the initial design through to forming, soldering, stone setting, polishing and the final finishing touches, each piece is made by my own two hands, allowing me to be involved in every part of its creation.

I've always been hungry to learn more and deepen my craft, continually developing the skills that allow me to bring an idea from imagination to finished piece myself. For me, there is something incredibly rewarding about being able to hold the entire creative process in my own hands.

Every piece that leaves my studio carries a little of the journey that brought it to life, created with love, intention and gratitude.

Made with Meaning

My work spans collections inspired by nature, ritual and symbolism, alongside personalised and bespoke jewellery, engagement and wedding rings, and deeply personal memorial pieces incorporating elements such as ashes and fingerprints.

I work primarily with recycled silver and consciously sourced materials, with an intention to make thoughtfully and minimise waste wherever I can. Most pieces are made-to-order, allowing me to create slowly and with care, rather than producing more than is needed.

For me, this is what makes handmade jewellery so special. It isn't simply something to wear - it is a piece of creativity, craft and intention brought into being by hand.
